New Zuora Features and Enhancements

Billing

Improved performance and new filter options for customer account search

We've given you more power to quickly find the right customer accounts:

  • Filtered search: Narrow your search range by specifying a customer account field (e.g., account name) and type of search (starts with, contains, or exact match)
  • Improved performance: Search results are returned more quickly, especially when searching large number of accounts.

If the 'Custom Field' permission is enabled in your tenant settings, the advanced search option 'Custom Field(s)' will also be available. Selecting this option will perform a search across all of your custom fields at once.

Our regular search is still available, and remains the default search mode.

See Finding Customer Accounts for more information.

New Usage Summary and Invoice Item merge fields available for custom invoice templates

We are introducing three new merge fields for your custom invoice templates.

<<UsageSummary.AccountName>> and <<UsageSummary.AccountNumber>>

Add these two merge fields to your invoice template when you have multiple accounts on a single invoice and you want to display account names and account numbers next to the charges in the Usage Summary table.

<<InvoiceItem.AccountNumber>>

Add this merge field to your invoice template if you want to display the Account Number next to each invoice item in Charge Summary table. As in previous releases, the Account Name can also be displayed next to invoice items by using the tag <<InvoiceItem.AccountName>>.

Instructions and a sample template are available from within the Zuora application. Navigate to Settings > Z-Billing Settings > Manage Invoice Rules and Templates.

See Creating a Custom Invoice Template for more information.

New permissions for bill runs and payment methods

Starting with this release, your Zuora tenant administrators will have more control restricting users from performing specific actions related to billing runs:

Change Permissions Impact Implementation
New Change Payment Methods

Users with this permission can create, edit, and reset payment methods.

Users without this permission can only view and download.

New permissions are selected by default. Your tenant administrator must explicitly remove new permissions from users.

New Delete Payment Methods

Users with this permission can delete payment methods.

Users without this permission can only view and download.

New

Create Bill Runs

Users with this permission can create bill runs.

Users without this permission can only view and export bill runs.

An error message is returned if Zuora platform users and Zuora API users try to perform actions for which they do not have permission. They must contact your Zuora tenant administrator to request a change to their user permissions.

See Z-Billing Roles for more information.

Commerce

A new option to enable the client-side validation of credit card number on Hosted Payment Method page

A new check box was added for you to enable the client-side credit card validation on the Hosted Payment Method page. When you check this box during configuration of your Hosted Payment Method page, users' credit card number entries are validated before being submitted. When you check this box, you also have an option to define two error messages to appear on the Hosted Payment Method page, one for invalid credit card number and one for invalid credit card type.

See Configure Hosted Payment Method Pages for more information about the new option.

Client-side validation of credit card number on Hosted Payment Method page

When you enable the client-side credit card validation, the following checks are performed as user enters a credit card number on the Hosted Payment Method page:

  • Does the entered number match issuer's pattern?
For example, if the card number begins with "34" or "37", then the card is an AMEX and therefore must be 15 characters in length. If the card number beings with "4", then the card is a VISA, and the length must contain between 13 and 16 characters.
  • Does the number actually check-sum?
For example,  the input credit card number must check-sum to make it an valid AMEX card number. It cannot be random 13 numbers that begins with "34".
  • If a validation fails, the error message that you specified while you enable the client-side validation is displayed in red, and the credit card number field is highlighted with a red border.

Automatic selection of credit card type on Hosted Payment Method page

When you enable the client-side credit card validation, as user enters a credit card number on the Hosted Payment Method page, the credit card type is automatically identified based on user's entry. Supported credit card types are AMEX, Visa, Discover, and MasterCard.

Finance

New accounting period setting to allow usage

We've added the ability to create and delete usage records in a closed accounting period, under Z-Finance Settings > Configure Accounting Period Rules. By default this is set to No.

Access to this feature requires a specific edition of Zuora. See Zuora Editions for details. Get in touch with our sales team through zuora.com for specific terms and pricing.

See Accounting Period for more information.

Payments

New permission to manage payment runs

Starting with this release, your Zuora tenant administrators will have more control restricting users from performing specific actions related to payment runs:

Resolved Issues

Billing

Incorrect object names were required when exporting data sources

SOAP API data export requests for the RatePlanChargeTier and ProductRatePlanChargeTier data sources were resulting in an error. This was resolved in this release, and the correct object names can now be used from WSDL version 55.0+.

If you use WSDL version 54.0 or below, the workaround is to use the object names RatePlanChargeTierDS and ProductRatePlanChargeTierDS instead.

Note that for WSDL version 54.0 or below, data export files generated from within the Zuora application or via the SOAP API are named using the alternative object name, e.g., RatePlanChargeTierDS.csv and ProductRatePlanChargeTierDS.csv. The column headings in the export files also use the alternative object name, e.g., RatePlanChargeTierDS.Price.

From WSDL version 55.0+, the correct object names are used in the filenames, e.g., RatePlanChargeTier.csv and ProductRatePlanChargeTier.csv, and in the column headings, e.g., RatePlanChargeTier.Price
