Insights Analysis

This feature is not automatically enabled for existing users of the Zuora Insights add-on. To request this feature, contact your Zuora Insights representative.

Insights Analysis enables you to transform data about your subscription business into reports that reveal trends in key subscription metrics. The data provided by Insights Analysis includes details of new and modified subscriptions, billing and payment transactions, and monthly calculations of key subscription metrics.

Insights Analysis features a report builder that is functionally similar to Zuora Reporting. However, the two interfaces are completely separate. Report runs, scheduled reports, and saved reports are only accessible from the interface in which you created the reports.

To use Insights Analysis, navigate to Insights > Analysis in your Zuora tenant.

Standard Reports

The Zuora Standard Reports folder contains pre-built reports that you can run immediately. Each standard report calculates a key subscription metric. See Calculations of Key Subscription Metrics for more information. Insights also displays these key subscription metrics as interactive cards on the Overview dashboard.

Each report in the Zuora Standard Reports folder is based on one of the following Insights Analysis data sources:

Data Pipeline

All data in Insights Analysis is sourced from your Zuora tenant. The Insights Analysis data pipeline synchronizes data from your Zuora tenant every hour.

Currency Conversion

If your Zuora tenant has the Currency Conversion feature enabled, you can include currency conversion data in Insights Analysis.

To include currency conversion data in Insights Analysis, you must enable Automatically include additional Currency Conversion information in data source exports on the Manage Currency Conversion settings page. See Configure Foreign Currency Conversion for more information.

Insights Analysis converts some transaction amounts to the home currency configured in your Zuora tenant. Insights Analysis provides converted transaction amounts in both the original transaction currency and your home currency. Fields with names ending in "(Home Currency)" represent transaction amounts that have been converted to your home currency.

Exchange Rates

For objects that support currency conversion, Insights Analysis provides the following currency conversion data fields:

  • Home Currency
  • Exchange Rate
  • Exchange Rate Date
  • Provider Exchange Rate Date

Insights Analysis uses Exchange Rate to convert transaction amounts to values in Home Currency.

Insights Analysis uses the following procedure to determine Exchange Rate:

  1. Determine Exchange Rate Date from the dates associated with the transaction.

  2. Determine Provider Exchange Rate Date from Exchange Rate Date, based on the currency conversion settings in your Zuora tenant.

For example, if you have set up monthly currency conversion on the 1st day of each month, a transaction with an Exchange Rate Date of 2017-06-12 will have a Provider Exchange Rate Date of 2017-06-01.

  3. Determine Exchange Rate by getting the exchange rate for Provider Exchange Rate Date from the exchange rate provider.

Multi-entity Reporting

If your organization uses Zuora Multi-entity, you can report across multiple entities in Insights Analysis. Reporting across multiple entities is not supported in Zuora Reporting.

Multi-entity support in Insights Analysis has the following components:

  • An entity selector in the report builder. The entity selector enables you to specify which entities to report on.

The entity selector displays your current entity and any sub-entities of your current entity. You can report on sub-entities of your current entity even if you do not have permission to switch to the sub-entities.

  • An Entity object in each data source. The Entity object enables you to include entity information in reports.

For example:

The entity selection is saved as part of the report definition. When you run the report, the report results are based on data from the specified entities.

For example:

If you do not specify any entities, the report results are based on data from your current entity only.

Notes and Limitations

  • Multi-entity reporting is only available for the Transaction data source and the Booking Metrics data source.

  • If you use the entity selector to specify more than one entity, you cannot include currency conversion data in the report. This is because different entities can have different home currencies.

  • If you use the entity selector to specify more than one entity, you should take care when including custom fields in the report. If you include a custom field that has the same name in all the selected entities, but not the same data type in all the selected entities, Insights Analysis will not be able to run the report.

Insights Analysis displays a warning in the report builder if you include a custom field or specify an entity that leads to an inconsistency of data types across entities. If you see this warning, you must undo the action that preceded the warning.

If you are unable to complete a report because of inconsistent data types across entities, ask your organization's Zuora administrator whether it is possible to modify the custom field data types in the affected entities.

  • If a Zuora user in your organization has access to the global entity, the user will be able to report on all entities in your multi-entity hierarchy.

To disable Insights Analysis for specific users of an entity, log in as an administrator of the entity, then assign each user a Reporting role that does not include any permissions. See Reporting Roles for more information.
