New Zuora Features and Enhancements

Billing & Subscription

Configure Subscriptions to Automatically Renew from Termed to Evergreen

We have added a subscription renewal setting that gives you two options:

  • Renew With Specific Term: The subscription will remain termed when it is renewed. No change - this works exactly the same as previous Zuora releases.
  • Renew To Evergreen: The subscription will automatically change from termed to evergreen when it is renewed.

See Specifying Basic Information for a Subscription for more information about the renewal setting.

The new renewal setting is supported by the Zuora SOAP API. We have added a RenewalSetting field to the Subscription and Amendment SOAP API objects.

Enhanced Subscription Renewal Notifications

You now have more control over how you notify your customers that their subscriptions are coming up for renewal. We have:

  • Enhanced the How Many Days Before event parameter for Upcoming Renewal notifications. The parameter now lets you choose to send notifications to customers anywhere from 1 to 90 days before their subscriptions are due to renew. You are no longer limited to choosing 30, 60, or 90 days.
  • Added two new default email templates for letting your customers know about upcoming renewals:
    • Upcoming Renewal Default Email Template (Auto Renewal)
    • Upcoming Renewal Default Email Template (Manual Renewal)
  • Added two new merge fields that can be used in Upcoming Renewal email templates:
    • <Event.AutoRenewal>: True or False, depending on whether the subscription is configured to auto-renew.
    • <Event.HowManyDaysBefore>: Number of days before the subscription is due to be renewed.

See How do I automatically notify my customers of subscriptions coming up for renewal? for information about configuring email notifications for upcoming renewals.

See Email Template Merge Fields for information about the two new merge fields.

Invoice Templates Officially Support Merge Fields for Use with Conditional Logic

Invoice templates now officially support certain merge fields for use with conditional logic. You can use the merge fields in conditional statements on invoice templates to show or hide text, tables, and other merge fields.

See Merge Fields Supported in IF Fields on Invoice Templates for a list of merge fields that can be used with conditional logic.

See Conditional Logic (IF Fields) for information about using conditional logic on invoice templates.

Activating a Rate Plan Charge in Other Currencies Now Saves the Rate Plan Charge

When you edited rate plan prices in multi-currency in Product Catalog, activating a price in a currency did not save the price. You had to explicitly click Save to save the price before you close the window. Now activating a price also save the price.

See Create a Product Rate Plan for information about activating a rate plan charge price in multi-currency.

A REST Call to Generate Quote PDF/Word Documents

A new REST call, Quotes Document, was implemented to generate Quote documents in PDF or Microsoft Word. You make a request with a Quote ID and a Quote Template ID, and the response includes the REST URL of the generated PDF or Word document. Using the new call, you can customize the Quote document generation process in Zuora Quotes.

Pre-populate the Encrypted Credit Card Fields

In Payment Pages 2.0 forms, now you can pre-populate credit card information, specifically credit card number, CVV number, expiration year, and expiration month, if the field values are encrypted. The credit card information needs to be encrypted using the Public Key. See the encrypt() function in the below Java sample code for an example implementation of credit card information encryption:

If the above four credit card field values are not encrypted, the fields are not going to be pre-populated in Payment Pages 2.0 forms, and the values are not sent to Zuora. You get an alert to inform that these fields need to be encrypted. For the users who do not use Microsoft Internet Explorer, an error is also logged in the JavaScript console.

See Integrate Payment Pages 2.0 for information about pre-populating Payment Pages 2.0 fields.

New Data Sources for Payment and Refund Transaction Logs

We have added three new data sources for the payment and refund transaction logs to provide insight on how Zuora communicates with the gateway, relative to payment methods, payments, and refunds:

New Process when Changing Payment Gateway Name

You must temporarily deactivate the payment gateway prior to changing the payment gateway name.

See Setting Up Payment Gateways for more information.

Index Up To 10 Custom Fields For Improved Performance

With indexed Custom Fields, tenants can now index up to 10 custom fields and create up to 40 non-indexed custom fields per Zuora object. By indexing your custom fields, there will be many instances where you will see performance gains.  For example, tenants who perform synchronous API queries against their custom fields can expect to see performance gains.

As of R182, existing tenants with fewer than 10 custom fields per object, all custom fields will be automatically indexed.  For tenants with more than 10 existing custom fields will automatically index the first 10 custom fields per object that were created. You can manage indexed and non-indexed custom fields from the Zuora application.

See the following articles for more information:

Reports and Data Exports are all being consolidated under the new Z-Reporting navigation header.

We've also moved the Reporting and Data Exports Knowledge Center articles too. See Reporting for articles updated with the new navigation.
