New Zuora Features and Enhancements

Billing & Subscription

Create Amendments Before the Renewal Term or Last Invoice Date

What if you renew a customer’s subscription but the customer wants to cancel or change their subscription before the renewal term? Or what if you post an invoice but the customer wants to cancel or change their subscription before the invoice date?

Previously, you needed to delete the renewal amendment, or unpost, cancel, and delete the invoice. Only then could you make the necessary amendments.

Now, you can directly make the amendments. Zuora takes care of the rest.

We have made the following enhancements to subscription amendments:

  • If you create an early renewal amendment, you can now create amendments that become effective before the start date of the renewal term. You no longer need to delete the early renewal amendment first.
  • When you create an amendment that becomes effective before the start date of the renewal term, the amendment stays effective into the renewal term.
  • You can now create amendments that become effective before the last invoice date of a customer. You no longer need to cancel the last invoice before creating the amendments.
  • Zuora can now bill for amendments that became effective before the last invoice date. Zuora simply generates a new invoice to reflect these changes to the subscription.

For more information, see Amend or Cancel a Subscription Before the Renewal Term and Amend or Cancel a Subscription Before the Last Invoice Date.

Entitlements in Product Catalog and Subscriptions

Entitlements introduces a new "Feature" concept in Zuora product catalog and subscription models. With Entitlements, several features can be associated to a product as a bundle. The Entitlements feature offers the following capabilities in Zuora and in the upcoming release of Zuora Quotes:

  • Create and manage features in the product catalog
  • Associate one or more features with a product
  • Create or amend a subscription with features associated
    • Enhance Zuora product catalog to represents what you "get" as a true entity
    • Support more detailed provisioning information
  • Synchronize features and product-feature associations from Zuora to Salesforce
  • Create a New Subscription, Amendment or Renewal Quote with features associated in Salesforce, and send the quote to Zuora.
  • Present product features in Quote documents

You can define features, add features to products, and add products and additional features to subscriptions.

Features are supported in Zuora APIs.

Access to this feature requires a specific edition of Zuora. See Zuora Editions for details. Get in touch with our sales team through for specific terms and pricing.

New Delivery Option for Email Invoices from Billing Runs

We've enhanced how billing runs and invoices work together. For a billing run, we give you the option to send:

  • All invoices. Useful when you want to resend invoices. Your customers can receive all invoices associated with the current billing run.
  • Only the last updated invoices. Your customers get only the last updated invoices associated with the current billing run.

Payment Method Snapshot

The Snapshot feature makes a copy of the entire Payment Method object, and all of its fields, every time there is a transaction. If the Payment Method is deleted, the Snapshot continues to retain the data that was used in each of the past transactions. The Payment Method Snapshot will be available for query using the SOAP API and Data Sources.

See Payment Method Snapshot for more information.

Revenue & Finance

Accounting Codes Must be Active Before You Can Include Them in API Calls

Zuora now requires that accounting codes be active in your Zuora Chart of Accounts before you can include them in SOAP or REST API calls.

In previous releases, Zuora allowed you to include inactive accounting codes in API calls. Now, if you try to include an inactive accounting code in an API call, Zuora returns the following error message:

The specified accounting code {name} is inactive.

For Z-Finance users, see Set Up Chart of Accounts for information about how to activate accounting codes in Zuora. For all other users, see Set Up Chart of Accounts.

Zuora APIs

Aggregated Query API

The Aggregate Query API (AQuA) is a REST API that executes multiple Export ZOQL or ZOQL queries. The queries are performed in a sequential order and in a single read-only database transaction. All the data in the service output is guaranteed integral against the database snapshot taken at the transaction start time.

AQuA API supports Stateless and Stateful modes.

  • In Stateless model, AQuA executes the ZOQL and Export ZOQL as is.
  • In Stateful mode, AQuA exports the data created, updated and deleted since the last AQuA transaction without user having to specify the dates in the ZOQL filters. AQuA in Stateful mode is best suited for continuous data integration between Zuora and other external systems.

See Aggregated Query API for more information.

WSDL Version

For Release 180, the WSDL version is 60.0. See Zuora WSDL for information about downloading the current version.

QueryOptions is Available for query() and queryMore() SOAP API Calls

The QueryOptions element that is used with SOAP API query() and queryMore() calls is now generally available.

queryMore() must be enabled on your tenant.

Submit a request at Zuora Global Support to enable this feature or service.

Download the WSDL version 60.0 to automatically enable the QueryOptions object for use.

See QueryOptions for more information.

New SOAP API Error Codes

Four new error codes were exposed to better assist with SOAP API errors:  LOCK_COMPETITION,  TEMPORARY_ERROR,  TRANSACTION_TERMINATED, and TRANSACTION_TIMEOUT

Download WSDL version 60.0 to make use of these new error codes.

See Errors for descriptions.
