April 2016 Release Notes

Welcome to the release notes for the Zuora April 2016 Release, R199. This release includes new Zuora features, enhancements, resolved issues, and improvements to the Knowledge Center.

Subscription​ Management

Flexible Permission Control on Subscriptions and Amendments

Now you can control whether users can delete subscriptions and amendments by setting the new Delete Subscriptions/Amendments permission. The Manage Subscriptions/Amendments permission no longer controls the deleting subscriptions and amendments action. This enhancement gives you more flexible admin control on subscriptions and amendments. 

By default, for all existing Z-Billing roles, if the Manage Subscriptions/Amendments permission is turned on, the Delete Subscriptions/Amendments permission is turned on. If the Manage Subscriptions/Amendments permission is turned off, the Delete Subscriptions/Amendments permission is turned off.

To access this feature, navigate to Settings > Administration Settings > Manage User Roles, and select Z-Billing from the drop-down list.

Flexible Subscription Preview Through the Zuora UI

Previously from the Zuora UI you could only preview subscriptions for up to five years starting from the subscription start date. You could not preview historical or future invoices if the period between the subscription start date and end date was over five years. Now you can preview subscriptions starting from any date later than the subscription start date. The Preview Start Date field is newly added to specify the preview start date when previewing a subscription.

Billing and Payments

Timing Adjustment for GoCardless Gateway Reconciliation

Zuora has adjusted the timing of the GoCardless gateway reconciliation batch from 22:00 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) to 13:30 UTC. This adjustment is made to provide reconciliation results earlier in the day for EMEA customers.

Submit a request at Zuora Global Support only if you wish to have access to the GoCardless gateway. If you already have the GoCardless gateway enabled, adjust the timing with the following setting:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Z-Payments Settings > Setup Payment Gateway.
  2. Find the GoCardless gateway instance from the gateway list and click Edit.
  3. In the Edit Gateway page, re-enable the Enable gateway reconciliation checkbox: Clear the Enable gateway reconciliation check box and then select it again.

Invoice PDF Localization

This feature is in Limited Availability. If you wish to have access to the feature, submit a request at Zuora Global Support

Before this release, you had to maintain the product catalog in multiple languages and create a separate invoice template in each language you wanted to support. For example, if you had customers across 30 different languages, you would have to create and maintain 30 different products in the Zuora product catalog in order for invoices to display the product name, rate plan, charge, and so on, in the correct language.

In this release, Zuora introduced the ability to translate invoice merge fields into multiple languages. Now you can generate invoice PDFs in multiple languages with a single instance of your product catalog. You create a translation table for supported merge fields and upload the translation table to Zuora. Supported merge field values are displayed on invoice PDFs in the language specific to the customer.

Confirmation Dialog Option for Payment Pages 2.0 of the UK Direct Debit Payment Type

The Confirmation Dialog option is supported in Payment Pages 2.0 for the Bank Transfer-Direct Debit (UK) payment method. When your customers select to pay with the UK Direct Debit payment method, they must confirm the mandate information on this Confirmation Dialog page before payments can be processed.

The following key features are included.

  • All you need to capture Direct Debit (UK) information in a compliant manner: The required display information includes Creditor Identifier and the customer's IBAN.
  • Customizable look and feel: You control the style and placement of content within the dialog.
  • Content can include legal terms, labels, and dates, and it can be localized into any language.

The Confirmation Dialog option is selected by default for new Direct Debit (UK) payment pages.

Although the Confirmation Dialog is disabled by default for the Direct Debit (UK) payment pages created prior to this release, we strongly recommend that you enable this functionality in your existing UK Direct Debit payment pages to align with the BACS best practices for Direct Debit (UK).

Gateway Options Added to Adyen Gateway

Zuora allows you to pass in special Adyen gateway-specific parameters for payments. For each of these special parameters, you supply the name-value pair and Zuora passes it to the gateway. This allows you to add functionality that's supported by Adyen but currently not supported by Zuora.

End-to-End Foreign Currency Conversion Now Supported

End-to-end foreign currency conversion is now available in Zuora, allowing you to easily manage transactions in foreign currencies. Highlights include:

  • Foreign Currency Exchange Rates: Use default rates provided by Oanda or import your own exchange rates.
  • Currency Conversion Data in Exports: View currency conversion data in all transactional data sources and other key exports.
  • Foreign Currency Gains and Losses: Track realized and unrealized gains and losses resulting from currency conversion.
  • Simplified Accounting Close: You can now view accounting period Summaries, Balances, and Journal Entries all in your home currency, with any foreign currency transactions being converted automatically. You can also see any rounding differences resulting from the currency conversion, making for a simplified and streamlined accounting close process.

Notifications for Journal Runs and Trial Balances

You can now configure email and callout notifications for journal runs and trial balances, making it easier to automate your general ledger integration with Zuora.

The following notification events are available:

  • Journal Run Completion | Journal Run Completed Status
  • Journal Run Completion | Journal Run Error Status
  • Trial Balance Completion | Trial Balance Completed Status
  • Trial Balance Completion | Trial Balance Error Status

Navigate to Z-Finance Settings > Setup Profiles, Notifications and Email Templates to configure notifications.

Enhanced Export for Journal Entry Transaction Details

To simplify your general ledger integration with Zuora, we have added the following fixed-name columns to the Journal Entry Transaction Detail export:

  • Debit Accounting Code
  • Credit Accounting Code
  • Debit Amount
  • Credit Amount

If you use Foreign Currency Conversion, the following columns are also added:

  • Credit Amount (Home Currency)
  • Debit Amount (Home Currency)

Accounting Period Summary Export is Being Deprecated

We are deprecating the accounting period Summary Tab Information export. This export is being superseded by the more comprehensive Transaction Details export, which is available for download after generating Summary Journal Entries in Zuora.

Delete Unused Accounting Codes

You can now delete unused accounting codes using the Zuora UI or SOAP API.

Delete Accounting Periods

You can now delete the last open accounting period using the Zuora UI or SOAP API.

Segments Support Custom Fields on Contact Objects

You can now associate general ledger segments with custom fields on the Sold To Contact and Bill To Contact objects.

Changes to Accounting Codes

We have made the following changes to accounting codes in this release:

  • You can only specify accounting codes that already exist in your chart of accounts. For example, if you update the accounting code on a product rate plan charge by specifying a non-existent accounting code, an error is returned.
  • Accounting codes require unique names, regardless of the accounting code type. For example, if you have a Sales Revenue accounting code called “Revenue,” you cannot have another accounting code also called “Revenue,” even if it is of a different type, such as Deferred Revenue. Existing accounting codes with duplicate names are not affected.

Please ensure that your Zuora integration complies with these changes.

SOAP API Change History

Date Field Changes as of WSDL 69

Please read this important note before using WSDL version 69 or later.

In WSDL 68 and earlier, 56 Zuora SOAP API date fields are treated as dateTime fields. As of WSDL 69, Zuora will treat these fields as date only fields. These fields are no longer compatible with dateTime values. Date and dateTime values in WSDL 69 are now the same as date and dateTime values in the Zuora application.

Before downloading and using WSDL 69, check to see if your SOAP integration passes or receives dateTime values to or from any of these fields.

The AQuA API is also affected by these date field changes. If you use the AQuA API, you must review the date field changes and take the appropriate action.

Knowledge Center

We have updated the following Knowledge Center articles based on your feedback:

  • The following articles are updated to correct the name of the discount charge model to Discount-Percentage:

    ​Previously it was described as Discount-Fixed Percentage.

  • generate() SOAP API call: Updated the example to include the response of the example request.

  • How do I handle free trials in Zuora?: Updated this article with the following changes:

    • Added a note in Example 1 that all the charges must set to be triggered on the Service Activation date if there is over one charge within the subscription.

    • Updated the incorrect screenshot in Example 3.

Localization of the Getting Started Guide

The Getting Started Guide is now available in Japanese. The self-guided tutorial is used as a companion guide to the Zuora free trial to introduce you to the core Zuora functionality.
