Manage Ramp Deals

If you are an existing Zuora Subscribe and Amend customer, we recommend you enable Orders Harmonization to access the Orders feature. With Orders, you can access both existing functions for subscription and billing management and the new features on Zuora Billing.

This article describes how to manage ramp deals in Zuora Quotes.

Ramp Deals

A ramp deal is a set of time-based periods where products or pricing can change. You initially set up a ramp deal, and then you make ongoing updates to the set of time-based periods where prices can change. These changes are referred as future dated amendments in Zuora Quotes. You can set up ramp deals and make future dated updates to the quote charges by yearly, quarterly, semi-annual, monthly periods. Then you submit the multi-action quotes with future dated amendments to Zuora as a new order.

When the ramp deal feature is enabled, the charge segments of the quote appear, grouped by ramp period in Lightning Guided Product Selector. When you update a field in a charge segment, e.g. Effective Price or Discount, the changes become effective as of the start date of that ramp period.

Ramp deals are supported:

  • In Lightning Guided Product Selector
  • For the New Subscription quotes
  • For the Amend Subscription quotes
  • For the Renew Subscription quotes

Custom fields are supported on quote rate plans in the ramp deal UI. See Display Custom Fields on Page Layout for displaying custom fields in the ramp deal UI.

Display Fields for Ramp Deals

To add the fields that enable a ramp deal:

  1. Navigate to Setup > Create > ObjectsQuote.
  2. In the Field Sets section, click Edit for the Quote Details (zqu__Quote_Information) field set.
  3. Drag and drop the Ramp Frequency and Specific Ramp Frequency fields to the In the Field Set list. 
  4. Click Save.
  5. In the Field Sets section, click Edit for the Quote Information (zqu__Detail_Quote_Information) field set.
  6. Drag and drop the Ramp Frequency and Specific Ramp Frequency fields to the In the Field Set list. 
  7. Click Save. This enables the ramp deal fields for a New Subscription Quote.
  8. Perform Step 2 - 4 to the following Quote Details field sets to enable the ramp deal fields for Amendment Quotes and Renewal Quotes:
    • zqu__Amend_Edit_Quote_Details
    • zqu__Amend_Quote_Details
    • zqu__Renewal_Quote_Details

Now the Ramp Frequency and Specific Ramp Frequency fields will appear on the Quote Detail page, and your quoting users will be able to override the values at the Quote level.

Create Ramp Deals

To create a ramp deal:

  1. Add the Ramp Frequency and Specific Months fields to the page layout as described in Display Fields for Ramp Deals.
  2. Select the Ramp Frequency field in the Quote Details section of the quote creation step.
    The Ramp Frequency and Specific Ramp Frequency fields are not in the default Quote Detail page layout. See Display Fields for Ramp Deals for how to enable the fields.
    • Ramp Frequency: Specifies how often a ramp should occur.
    • Specific Ramp Frequency: A number of months for a ramp period. This field is required when you set the Ramp Frequency field to Specific Months.
  3. If you selected Specific Months in the Ramp Frequency field, enter a number of months for the ramp periods in the Specific Ramp Frequency field.
  4. Following the guided selling flow, select products and rate plans for the quote, and when you save the selection, the charges will appear in Lightning Guided Product Selector grouped by ramp period.
    The one-time charges will appear in all the ramp segments as read-only.
  5. To clone an original charge segment, click the down arrow next to the rate plan name and select Clone
    When you clone an original charge segment, all its future dated segments are also cloned.
  6. You can make field updates as of the start date of any ramp period.
    • When you edit the charge information on a ramp segment, the change cascades to all future segments.
    • Cascading actions will not override previously set future dated changes. 
  7. You can set CUSTOMER ACCEPTANCE DATE and SERVICE ACTIVATION DATE for a product rate plan. Click the down arrow next to the rate plan name and select EditAmendments. You can then set the fields.  
  8. Click SAVE or SUBMIT to save your updates.

If you change the quote start date, you are changing the entire ramp structure, and the previous contract effective dates might no longer be valid. You should clear all previous actions and create new ramp structure. 

To add a product rate plan to a ramp period

  1. Create future dated amendments as described above.
  2. On the Choose Product and Charges page, click + ADD PRODUCTS at the bottom.
  3. Follow the flow and the steps to add a product.
  4. Select the product and the rate plan you want to add:
    • Click + ADD for the additional product with a single rate plan and then click Edit.
    • Click Select Plan for the products with multiple rate plans and then click + Select to add a rate plan.
  5. Click the edit page icon next to the Select button.
  6. Select the ramp period you want to add this rate plan to and click Done.
  7. Click Save.

To remove a product from a ramp period:

  1. On the Choose Product and Charges page, click the down arrow next to the rate plan name in a ramp period and select Remove.
    • A RemoveProduct action will be registered as of the start date of that ramp period.
    • Removing a future segment removes the rate plans in all the following ramp periods.
  2. Click SAVE.
  3. If you want to undelete a rate plan, click the down arrow next to the rate plan name in the ramp period and select Undo Changes.
    Undeleting a rate plan will undelete the rate plan in all the following ramp periods.
