Insights Analysis
This feature is not automatically enabled for existing users of the Zuora Insights add-on. To request this feature, contact your Zuora Insights representative. This feature is not available if Orders is enabled in your Zuora tenant.
Insights Analysis enables you to transform data about your subscription business into reports that reveal trends in key subscription metrics. The data provided by Insights Analysis includes details of new and modified subscriptions, billing and payment transactions, and monthly calculations of key subscription metrics.
Insights Analysis features a report builder that is functionally similar to Zuora Reporting. However, the two interfaces are completely separate. Report runs, scheduled reports, and saved reports are only accessible from the interface in which you created the reports.
To use Insights Analysis, navigate to Insights > Analysis in your Zuora tenant.
Standard Reports
The Zuora Standard Reports folder contains pre-built reports that you can run immediately. Each standard report calculates a key subscription metric.
Each report in the Zuora Standard Reports folder is based on one of the following Insights Analysis data sources:
- Booking Metrics
- Monthly Rollup Metrics
- Product Rate Plan Charge Tier
- Subscription
- Transaction
Custom Reports
If you want to run a custom report instead of a standard report, click Create New Report, then select the data source that best matches the values that you want to report.
For example, if you want to report data about every subscription in your Zuora tenant, select the Subscription data source. You should not select the Transaction data source, even though the Transaction data source also includes subscription data, because:
- The Transaction data source only includes subscription data associated with the transaction objects in your Zuora tenant; the report results may not represent all subscriptions in your Zuora tenant. If your organization uses Zuora Multi-entity, the report results may not represent all subscriptions in your entity.
- Different transaction objects can be associated with the same subscription; the report results may contain duplicate rows or unrepresentative aggregate values.
After you have selected the most appropriate data source for your report, you can start to build the report. See Create a Summary Report and Create a Detail Report for information about building reports.
Data Pipeline
All data in Insights Analysis is sourced from your Zuora tenant. The Insights Analysis data pipeline synchronizes data from your Zuora tenant every hour, unless the Currency Conversion feature of Insights Analysis is enabled. If the Currency Conversion feature of Insights Analysis is enabled, data is synchronized daily instead of hourly.
Currency Conversion
Contact your Zuora Insights representative for more information about this feature or to request access to this feature.
Insights Analysis enables you to associate a currency with each report that is based on the Booking Metrics data source or the Transaction data source. If you associate a currency with a report, Insights Analysis converts field values to the specified currency in:
- Preview results in the report builder
- Report results after you run the report
- Exported report results
If you use multi-entity reporting, Insights Analysis aggregates data across multiple entities and currencies to display final values in the currency you select for the report.
If the Currency Conversion feature of Insights Analysis is enabled, the Insights Analysis data pipeline synchronizes data from your Zuora tenant daily instead of hourly.
Choose a Currency
To specify the currency associated with a report, use the currency selector in the report builder:
The option "None: Local Currency" in the currency selector disables currency conversion for the report. If you select this option, Insights Analysis displays field values in their original currencies.
If you have configured a home currency in your Zuora tenant, the default currency in the currency selector is your Zuora tenant's home currency.
The currency conversion configuration of your Zuora tenant does not affect how Insights Analysis converts field values when applying your currency selection. Instead, Zuora uses standard exchange rates from Oanda.
Insights Analysis saves your currency selection as part of the report definition.
Supported Fields
Insights Analysis displays "(FX Enabled)" after the name of each field that supports currency conversion.
The following fields support currency conversion:
Data Source | Fields That Support Currency Conversion |
---|---|
Booking Metrics |
Booking Metrics:
|
Transaction |
Invoice:
Rate Plan Charge
Transaction:
|
When you drag a field into the report builder, Insights Analysis indicates which currency the values of the field will be converted to. For example, "Change in ACV (AUD)" indicates that the values of the "Change in ACV" field will be converted to Australian dollars.
If you do not specify a currency for the report, Insights Analysis displays "(Local Currency)" after the field name to indicate that the values of the field will not be converted.
Home Currency Conversion
If you have configured a home currency in your Zuora tenant, Insights Analysis provides the values of certain fields in your Zuora tenant's home currency. Each field that is available in your Zuora tenant's home currency has "(Home Currency)" at the end of the field name.
In addition, Insights Analysis provides the following fields related to home currency conversion:
- Home Currency
- Exchange Rate
- Exchange Rate Date
- Provider Exchange Rate Date
Home currency conversion is separate from the currency conversion feature described above.
Multi-entity Reporting
If your organization uses Zuora Multi-entity, you can report across multiple entities in Insights Analysis. Reporting across multiple entities is not supported in Zuora Reporting.
Multi-entity support in Insights Analysis has the following components:
-
An entity selector in the report builder. The entity selector enables you to specify which entities to report on.
The entity selector displays your current entity and any sub-entities of your current entity. You can report on sub-entities of your current entity even if you do not have permission to switch to the sub-entities.
-
An Entity object in each data source. The Entity object enables you to include entity information in reports.
For example:
The entity selection is saved as part of the report definition. When you run the report, the report results are based on data from the specified entities.
For example:
If you do not specify any entities, the report results are based on data from your current entity only.
Notes and Limitations
-
Multi-entity reporting is only available for the Transaction data source and the Booking Metrics data source.
-
If you use the entity selector to specify more than one entity, you cannot use fields related to home currency conversion in the report. This is because different entities can have different home currencies.
To aggregate data across multiple entities and currencies, use the currency selector and the "(FX Enabled)" fields described in the Currency Conversion section, above.
-
If you use the entity selector to specify more than one entity, you should take care when including custom fields in the report. The custom field names must match across all the entities you want to include in the report. Additionally, if you include a custom field that has the same name in all the selected entities, but not the same data type in all the selected entities, Insights Analysis will not be able to run the report.
Insights Analysis displays a warning in the report builder if you include a custom field or specify an entity that leads to an inconsistency of data types across entities. If you see this warning, you must undo the action that preceded the warning.
If you are unable to complete a report because of inconsistent data types across entities, ask your organization's Zuora administrator whether it is possible to modify the custom field data types in the affected entities.
-
If a Zuora user in your organization has access to the global entity, the user will be able to report on all entities in your multi-entity hierarchy.
To disable Insights Analysis for specific users of an entity, log in as an administrator of the entity, then assign each user a Reporting role that does not include any permissions. See Reporting Roles for more information.
