Additional Topics
Overview
Zuora Internal Documentation. This article is intended for Zuora only. Do not share or distribute publicly.
As a final step before moving to Milestone 3, we have a few additional topics for you to consider. Because these topics do not apply to every Self Implementation subscription business, we do not cover them in detail within this milestone. However, for those topics relevant to your own business, you should be sure to review the details and follow the provided links to other pages in our Knowledge Center for more information.
Advanced Charge Models
There are numerous charge models within Zuora, and we only covered a few of them in detail within the previous part of this milestone. You can see a complete list of Zuora charge models here.
Overage Smoothing Charge Model
One of the models that affects some customers is what we refer to as the Overage Smoothing Charge Model. This model is useful when your business requires avoiding spike and troughs in usage charges in any given model.
You can read about the Overage Smoothing Charge Model here.
Discounts
Very often your business may require giving discounts to your end customers. This discount could be either a one-time fixed amount or a percentage discount. Zuora provides a number of discount charges that you can implement for your subscription business. Read about Discount Charge Models here.
Uploading Usage Data
If your product catalog includes usage based charges, you will have to upload usage for each of your end customers on a regular basis. You can upload a CSV usage file manually or programatically. Click here to learn more about usage charges in general. You can review the steps for uploading usage here.
Accounting Codes
Accounting Codes are typically defined at the product rate plan level. When this is done, subscription data can be better tracked and categorized in a General Ledger by running a report against different accounting codes within Zuora. If you business has this requirement, then we recommend you understand how Accouting Codes work within Zuora and also learn how to set up Accounting Codes.
Pricing in Multiple Currencies
If your business requires that you price your product rate plans in multiple currencies, we recommend you read about currencies in Zuora and how to set up muti-currencies.
Custom Fields
In some cases, you may want to capture additional information within fields that are not provided out-of-the-box within core Zuora objects. You can add custom fields to the Account, Subscription, Product, and Product Rate Plan objects. You can use the Zuora UI or the Zuora API to add, update, and view custom fields. You can also use the account export to import and export the account custom fields.
See Manage Custom Fields to learn more about how to create and work with custom fields in Zuora.
Note: If you want to utilize Custom Fields and do not see this feature enabled within your Zuora tenant, please contact us at selfhelp@zuora.com.
What's Next
Congratulations! You have completed Milestone 2 and should now have your product catalog defined.
Of course, most subscription businesses adjust their products and pricing over time, and with Zuora, it is easy to make adjustments to your product catalog at any point, should you want to experiment with pricing and/or reflect pricing changes as you learn.
Note: Please take 2 minutes to complete a feedback survey before you move to Milestone 2
You can use our office hours or the next Self Implementation group meeting to discuss any questions you may have, and then move to Milestone 3: Configure Your Tenant Settings and Billing Operations.
