Create a product in Product Catalog

Start to build your product catalog by creating a product. Optionally, you can add an image for the product to identify the product in the future quickly. After a product is ready in your catalog, you can also control whether to allow users to add or remove features for a product when creating or amending a subscription. 

Add a product to the catalog

Complete the following steps to add a new product to your product catalog:

  1. Navigate to Products > Product Catalog in the left-hand navigation section.
  2. Click the Products tab if there are tabs at the top of the page.
  3. Click Add New Product. A New Product page opens.
  4. Specify a name for the product and optionally enter a description for it.
  5. Modify the SKU as necessary, or use the automatically-generated SKU.
  6. Select a date for the Effective Start Date field. The effective start date is the day your product becomes available, which is when you can begin adding the product to a subscription. The valid value is in MM/DD/YYYY format. 
  7. Select a date for the Effective End Date field.
  8. For the Category field, select one of the following categories, which is used to organize this product:
    • Base Products: The main list of products that you offer.
    • Add On Services: This can include setup or consulting fees.
    • Miscellaneous Products: This can include delinquent payment charges.
  9. Click Save

Add an image for a product

After the product is added to the catalog, complete the following steps to upload an image to identify the product:

  1. On the Products page, click the product you want to update.
  2. In the Product Information section, click Edit.
  3. In the Upload new image field, click Choose File to search for the image you want to upload.
  4. Select the image, then click Upload. Zuora Billing supports the following image file formats: .jpg, .gif, .png, or .bmp.
  5. Click Save.

Allow feature changes in subscriptions

For each product, you can control whether to allow your users to add or remove features while creating or amending a subscription. After adding a product to the product catalog, you edit the product to specify this setting.

  1. If you haven't done so, enable the Feature Specifications setting in the Zuora Billing settings. Otherwise, this setting is not available on the product details page.
  2. Navigate to the Products page and click the product you want to update. The product details page opens.
  3. In the Product Information section, click Edit.
  4. Select the checkbox for the Allow Feature Changes in Subscriptions field to enable feature changes.
  5. Click Save.

After the product is ready in your catalog, you can start creating product rate plans and product rate plan charges for the product.
